Step 1: Recruit Participants
Make sure you interview a representative sample that includes both the target user group and user groups that are often marginalized

- What do you want to learn from the interviews?
- I want to understand user needs and frustrations as they relate to the product I’m designing.
- I want to identify common user behaviors and experiences with tasks that my product is trying to address.
- Would they actually use the app?
- What is the hardest part about ordering food?
- Would you download/use an app to easily order food from a taco truck?
- Are there certain user problems or pain points that you need to empathize with?
- They don't want to download an app, or don't have enough space on their phones
- The app is hard to understand
- Inputting payment is a hassle/not trusted
- Common research goals when it comes to empathizing with users:
